New BMW X4 unveiled
The BMW Concept X4 has been unveiled ahead of its public debut at the 2013 Shanghai motor show later this month. BMW describes it as a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and has confirmed that a production version – called X4 – will go on sale in 2014.
Like the larger X6, the X4’s styling blends elements of coupe and SUV. The front of the car has a chunky bumper with SUV-style cladding, and the front grille and headlights are similar to those of the 4-Series coupe, which goes on sale this autumn.
Viewed in profile, the X4 has a similar overall shape to the X6, while the rear tailgate and lights echo those of both the X6 and the recently launched 3-Series Gran Turismo.
Underneath, the X4 shares much of its underpinnings with the X3 SUV; it will be built alongside that car (and also the X5 and X6) at BMW’s factory in Spartanburg, USA.
